Dr Rolf Jeltsch, a Swiss mathematician and Professor visits Sharda University, Greater Noida
Delivers lecture on the latest innovations in mathematics, Swiss higher education practices and possible collaborations with Sharda
Tweet-- Sharda University, Greater Noida played host to Dr Rolf Jeltsch, a renowned Swiss mathematician and professor today.
Dr. Jeltsch was welcomed at Sharda University by the Chancellor Mr. P.K. Gupta and was introduced to the students and faculty by Dr. R. P. Singh, Vice Chancellor of Sharda University where he delivered a lecture on the latest innovations in mathematics and Swiss higher education practices to the students. He also interacted with students and answered their queries during the lecture session.
"India has proven potential for scientific and technological development and mathematics is an important and sought after subject in India. Both Switzerland and India have tremendous opportunities in Science and Education and I believe the best way to tap into this is through motivating the youth. As, they say catch them young! Young minds are still open to information and learning, experimenting and discovering, adapting and applying. My interaction with the students at Sharda University has been exhilarating and I look forward to further collaborating with students and faculty of Sharda." said Dr Rolf Jeltsch, during his visit to the University in Greater Noida.
In the course of his visit Dr. Jeltsch's also held discussions for possible collaborations with a team led by Dr R P Singh, Vice Chancellor Sharda University and Professors A.H. Siddiqi and R.C. Singh senior members of the faculty from the Department of Physics, School of Engineering & Technology.
Dr Singh while welcoming the Swiss professor to the Sharda University campus said: "It's very fortunate for teachers and students of Sharda University to have Professor Jeltsch here on the campus. All the students, especially mathematics students can get the advantage of his experience and knowledge first hand."
The visit of Dr Jeltsch, who is on a visit to India visit has been planned under the auspices of the Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi to commemorate 2009 as the year of "Science and Education of Switzerland in India". The objective of this project is to conduct presentations and interaction, under diverse topics, with students of higher educational institutions (either specialized or general) and teachers.

About Indo-Swiss collaborations
The vibrant Indo-Swiss collaboration over the years has already yielded several joint ventures. Formal Indo-Swiss cooperation in Science and Technology (S&T) was initiated in 1966. Later, collaboration in biotechnology was agreed upon by India and Switzerland in 1974, and in 2006 the two governments further demonstrated their commitment to bilateral scientific research by signing the Indo-Swiss Executive Programme of Cooperation in the field of S&T. In the wake of growing collaborations, a Scientific Counsellor and Director of Swissnex (www.swissnex.org) for India have been appointed at the Swiss Embassy in New Delhi.
