Tweet-- Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies,(NMIMS) celebrated the first anniversary of their Bangalore Operations recently. The function was attended by number of corporate executives and academicians apart from the NMIMS family of Faculty and staff members. Prof Suresh Mony, Director-NMIMS Bangalore while welcoming the gathering touched on the course of events and challenges during the inaugural year. The keynote address was given by Vice-Chancellor, Dr Rajan Saxena who articulated the long term plans of NMIMS in general and the Bangalore campus in particular dwelt on the leadership challenges faced by all sections of industry as well as the academic world.
Senior HR heads from Cisco, ING Insurance, Yahoo India, Logica Systems participated in an intense panel discussion on the topic 'Has Industry's expectations on Talent Management changed post the Recession'. They emphasized that there has been no recession per se in India as we have had a positive growth rate of 5.5% and the lay-offs by some companies may be termed as a correction. The matter of concern however was the talent gap in terms of quality and quantity resulting in a global shortage of leaders which industry has not been able to address. The explosive growth of the IT industry has led to large scale recruitment often of sub-standard quality resulting in a cadre of glorified professionals drawing high salaries in the IT sector unlike the manufacturing sector where the situation is more level-headed. Also, in the quest to fill managerial positions, good engineers who lack managerial skills have been promoted as managers resulting in a double whammy to IT companies.
