LPU pledges clean environment on World Science Day

Chandigarh, Punjab, November 13, 2009 /India PRwire/ -- In order to keep up with the spirit of World Science Day today, Lovely Professional University reiterated its commitment to support Green Education in its campus. World Science Day, is celebrated by UNESCO to reaffirm the virtues of scientific research for promoting the development of nations and peoples, in tandem with fostering peace and a sustainable future. LPU supported this endeavor by asking the students and teachers to pledge the stoppage of wastage in terms of electricity, paper and fuel. The faculty and the students were dressed in green to mark the jubilation.

LPU has already been very actively spreading the message of conserving nature amongst its students by making its campus paperless. Scientific Poster Competition and Quiz Competition based on the principles of Science and Technology from evolution to latest advancements were also organized to initiate further involvement from the students. Such activities increase awareness. "We all know the importance of a Green Environment, but through the ideas and knowledge shared by the peers and the faculty, I know how to preserve it," said Samriti Sharama a student of B Tech (Hons.) Biotech, who participated in the event.

LPU, which is the education provider of more than 25,000 students thinks it is their responsibility to make its students cognizant with the changing environment. Global warming and its consequences. Mrs. Rashmi Mittal who was present on the occasion to felicitate the winners of the competions said "Children these days spend maximum time at schools and colleges and thus it is the responsibility of an educational institute to inculcate good habits in its students. Through such an initiative, we have tried to make all our students mindful of ways to a better future."

The Quiz contest was won jointly by a team comprising of Samriti Sharma, Sunil and Amandeep. Akishore won the "Best Painter Award", where he aesthetically depicted the glory of Mother Earth through a beautiful program.
