PETA to Animal Husbandry Minister of Kerala: Stop the Cruel and Illegal Pet Show

Animal Rights Group Furious About the Pet Show in Thrissur

Mumbai, Maharashtra, September 2, 2009 /India PRwire/ -- Thrissur- Shocked and deeply concerned about a pet show being organized by the Animal Husbandry department in Thrissur on 5th September 2009 where a wide variety of birds and animals would be displayed and the public visiting the show would be given information about breeding of birds and animals, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India has dashed off a letter to the Hon’ble Mr. Shri C. Devakaran, Animal Husbandry Minister bringing to his notice this serious and urgent issue concerning lives of millions of animals who are bred in captivity or caught from the wild for sale as ‘pets’ and urging him to cancel this pet show urgently and to immediately stop this illegal cruel trade of animals and implement legislation to improve the conditions in which animals can be kept for sale in pet shops.

PETA also sent a huge framed advertisement of famous Bollywood Star – John Abraham saying “NO ONE WANTS TO BE CAGED, LET BIRDS FLY FREE” (in Malayalam) which is aimed at giving freedom to all the birds and animals held in captivity across the country for various commercial gains.

The copy of the letter and the ad is attached herewith for your reference.
