Felicitation Function at GGSIP University

“In less than 10 years, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has made a mark for itself all over India and many parts of the world, despite working from a make-shift campus” said, Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Hon’ble Chief Minister of NCT of Delhi. Smt. Dikshit was speaking at the Felicitation Function organized by GGSIPU, in the Capital today.

According to her, GGSIPU has proved that is the good faculty, administrators and students that make a University and not just brick and mortar.

Smt. Dikshit inaugurated the new block of Humanities & Social Sciences at the University, amidst the presence of Prof. K. K. Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor, GGSIPU; Mr. G. Narendra Kumar, Secretary, Department of Training & Technical Education, Govt. of Delhi; Mr. V.P. Rao, Director, Higher Education, Govt of Delhi; Mr. V. K. Jain, Registrar of the University; and Prof. Yogesh Singh, Controller of Examination & Director, Students' Welfare, GGSIPU, among others. Under the new block, the University has added University School of Education to its existing University Schools of Studies. The new block will also house an Industrial Psychology Lab and Book Bank facility.

In his welcome address, Prof. Aggarwal informed the audience, “GGSIPU will be starting an M.Ed. programme very shortly under the newly inaugurated University School of Education. We have recently started a ‘BCA- Industry Specific’ programme in Distance Education mode under the Directorate of Open and Distance Education.” This programme is being offered in collaboration with Computer Society of India.

The Best Teacher Award for 2008 was also given on the occasion. This year, the award went to Dr C. S. Rai, Professor, University School of Information Technology. Dr. Rai was felicitated with a Laptop, shawl and citation by the Chief Guest. Every year, a Best Teacher is chosen among the faculty members of the University School of Studies (USS) and its constituent college, Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT) on the basis of an assessment done by students (to which 50% weightage is given), peers (with a 20% weightage) as well as self (with 30% weightage).

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Kumar complimented the teachers who have contributed to the growth of the University as well as congratulated the prize winners.

The day also saw awards being given to the Annual Toppers of the USS and IGIT. This year, 57 students were given first prizes, which included a cash award of Rs. 5,000 and a certificate of merit. The vote of thanks was delivered by the Registrar.
