About 642 newly recruited Sub-Inspectors (Prob.) of Delhi Police will undergo three-months training in Legal Education, offered by the University School of Law & Legal Studies (USLLS), Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Kashmere Gate. An orientation programme on the same was organized today by GGSIPU along with Delhi Police, at Shah Auditorium in the Capital.
Calling Delhi Police as the finest police force in the Country, Dr. H. R. Bharadwaj, Hon’ble Union Minister for Law & Justice, Government of India, said, “We have ignored our Police Force for several decades, which has resulted into strain on our manpower. We may have expanded in terms of numbers of personnel employed or increase in police posts but have not done much to improve the quality of the manpower. Training programmes like these will bridge that gap.”
Lt. Governor of NCT of Delhi and Chancellor of GGSIPU, Mr. Tejendra Khanna, urged the new officers to maintain highest standards of integrity and probity in their profession. He said, “When you will be posted at your respective areas, make a conscientious effort to win the confidence of general public and be particularly sensitive to women folk and elderly members of our society.”
The new recruits of Delhi Police, who have joined the force as Sub-Inspectors (Prob.) will be provided inputs on basics of law and legal education, covering subject areas like Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Indian Evidence Act, and Constitution of India, among others, as a part of this programme, at Police Training School, Wazirabad. The officers will also get to discuss and deliberate on several case studies during their training.
Speaking about the successful collaboration with Delhi Police, Prof. K. K. Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor, GGSIPU, said, “We at GGSIPU have always believed in an interdisciplinary approach, synergizing with the society and offering opportunities of continuing education, which was probably missing from the University domain earlier. This is the third kind of a training programme we have created for Delhi Police personnel and with the expansion of University we may be able to offer a full-fledged Postgraduate Course in Police Administration for the officers, in future.” Besides the faculty members of USLLS, the Training programme in Legal Education will be imparted by judiciary members from District Courts & High Court as well as by senior practicing lawyers.
“Sub Inspectors and Inspectors are at the cutting edge of the investigation system and they must be well aware to book a person, gather evidences and process the case for prosecution. Besides offering this specialized training programme in association with GGSIPU, we are also conducting several short term courses for the police force as well as have reviewed and revised the training material of our regular courses,” informed Mr. Y. S. Dadwal, Commissioner of Police, Delhi.
