TCS IT Wiz, India's largest tech quiz for schools, to reach out to schools across 12 cities in 2008

TCS IT Wiz celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and will be touring 12 cities across the country in 2008, starting with Bangalore in August and ending in Ahmedabad in November. During this period, the TCS IT Wiz will also take place in Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow and Pune. This nation-wide event is expected to have a participation of more than 15,000 students across the country, besides reaching out to 200,000 students.
To mark the celebration of a decade of technology quizzing in India and to mark the 10th anniversary of the TCS IT wiz, Mr. S. Ramadorai, CEO and MD, recently launched a website: www.tcsitwiz.com.dedicated to quizzing. This annual event has become a premier quiz in India for the school children.
The 2008 TCS IT Wiz winners will walk away with laptops and the runners will be rewarded with cameras & portable DVD players. The 6 finalist teams will also receive an array of prizes from TCS. TCS IT Wiz strives to enhance IT awareness among students, keeping them abreast of the latest developments in the world of IT, as information technology plays an integral role in today’s society and economy.
This year the Pune edition of the TCS IT Wiz will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the Yeshwantrao Chavan Natyagriha, Kothrud, Pune. It is open to school students studying from Class 8 – 12. There is no entry fee. For further details log on to www.tcsitwiz.com
Last year over 1000 students took part in the annual TCS IT Wiz in Pune, with winners emerging after a keenly contested event. TCS IT Wiz acts as a catalyst to trigger a passion for technology among students, which is the objective of the program.
Each institution is allowed to send multiple teams (two-members per team) to participate. Subject: The Quiz will focus on world of internet and unique websites, IT buzzwords and acronyms, IT Personalia, advertisements of IT and communication companies, software products, companies, brands, history of IT etc., Besides the areas where information technology has made an impact such as education, entertainment, books, multimedia, internet, banking, advertising and sports will also be covered during the quiz.
Format of the Quiz: The written prelims will have 20 questions. The Regional finals consist of the following 6 rounds: SCREENAGER (the research would range from IT happenings across the world), CRYPTOLOGY (a choice from a crossword puzzle), VIOSK (a visual round), MORPHING (a round where the teams get multiple clues on the screen to arrive at one final answer), @ TCS (based exclusively on TCS) and WAPPLETS (this would be a round that would essentially focus on speed of reaction and recall)
