Convocation 2008 held at SVKM's NMIMS University

SVKM's NMIMS University held its Convocation of 2008 Batch on the 26th of April 2008 at Bhaidas Hall, Vile Parle(W). Graduation and Convocation was a prestigious moment of reckoning for the 550 students of 2008 Batch of MBA - Core Programme, MBA-Capital Markets, PGDPM, PGDBM (Family Business), M.Tech amd m. Pharma. Tech. The keynote address for the Convocation Ceremony was given by Mr. Kewal Handa- MD, Pfizer Ltd.

Mumbai, Maharashtra, May 9, 2008 /India PRwire/ -- SVKM’s NMIMS University held its Convocation of 2008 Batch on the 26th of April 2008 at Bhaidas Hall, Vile Parle(W). Graduation and Convocation was a prestigious moment of reckoning for the 550 students of 2008 Batch of MBA – Core Programme, MBA-Capital Markets, PGDPM, PGDBM (Family Business), M.Tech amd m. Pharma. Tech. The keynote address for the Convocation Ceremony was given by Mr. Kewal Handa- MD, Pfizer Ltd.

The Convocation was announced open by the Chancellor of the University Mr. Amrish Patel followed by welcome address by Vice Chancellor Dr. N. M. Kondap.

Dr. Kondap, while highlighting the events undertaken by the university for the academic year quoted that NMIMS had taken number of initiatives related to academics such as redesigning of curriculum, enhancing the process of internationalization that benchmarked NMIMS against the international and national accredited schools.

Talking about the expansion to new centers, namely Hyderabad and Chandigarh, Dr Kondap said, “This year Government of Andhra Pradesh invited NMIMS University and allocated a plot of 90 acres of land for setting up an off Centre Campus at Jadcherla, which is nearly 40 kms from the new international airport. The work at this campus will begin shortly. We will be finalizing shortly the terms and conditions for opening up a campus at Chandigarh.”

Mr. Kewal Handa, Chief Guest on this occasion upheld NMIMS for carving a niche for itself in this competitive world. In his Convocation address, he said that “In a short span of time NMIMS has earned a unique name for itself. The Institute has a dream of becoming a global center of excellence. I have no doubt that this dream will be very soon fulfilled

Addressing the graduating students, Mr. Handa outlined the changing global landscape and the need to understand the new mantra of success. Mr. Handa in his speech emphasized on the skills needed in the new competitive world and recommended adaptive thinking, entrepreneurial drive, excellence in execution, networking and inner strength.

Successful students were presented with the Degree and Diploma by Chancellor Mr. Amrish Patel, Vice Chancellor Dr. Kondap, Chief Guest Mr. Kewal Handa and Vice President-SVKM Mr. B. P. Sheth.

The ceremony had begun with the Academic Procession led by Registrar of the University Shri V. K. Sridhar with an Army Band.

The Convocation was preceded by a Pre-Graduation Ceremony on 25th April. The graduating students were presented with ‘NMIMS 2008’ branded gold rings, which symbolizes the bond that the students of NMIMS have had with the University, the faculty and their fellow colleagues over the past two years.
