Bangalore – On behalf of his efforts to get protection for urban wildlife and the environment included in his party’s platform, Indian National Congress legislator Shri Narendra Babu will receive a framed Certificate of Appreciation from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India. Babu – a member of the Legislative Assembly – is the moving force behind the growing recognition of the importance of promoting and protecting urban ecosystems.

Through his "Parisaramitr" volunteer programme and leadership, Babu has created city parks as much-needed refuges for both residents and urban wildlife alike. In a letter to Shri Babu, PETA points out that cities would be barren places without wildlife and that, all too often, city dwellers' only contact with animals is when they appear on a dinner plate. And while parks provide life-sustaining habitat for urban wildlife, they also provide residents with the opportunity to observe animals behaving as they do in nature – something that is impossible to observe within the unnatural and cruel confines of circuses and zoos.

"By making citizens aware of environmental and animal issues and providing them with accessible initiatives to help animals, you are contributing to a more humane way of life for our entire society", writes PETA India Chief Functionary Anuradha Sawhney in her letter to Shri Babu. "Your efforts on behalf of the environment and animals set the gold standard for others to emulate, and we commend you for your foresight, initiative, creativity and kindness."

PETA's letter to Shri Narendra Babu is available upon request. For more information, please visit www.PETAIndia.com.
