Tweet-- Pearl Academy of Fashion (PAF), one of India’s leading fashion institutes has managed to garner unprecedented attention from brands and buying houses / export houses at the recently concluded placement week for students of its Merchandising & Retail programmes. Madura Exports, Aditya Birla Group, Reliance, Lifestyle, Future Group, Seasons, Petals, Blackberry etc. have recruited students with the pay package of annual gross income of Rs. 2.50 lakh to Rs. 4.25 lakh. Students have been absorbed as Management / Merchandise Trainees.
Demand for trained professionals for the retail industry is likely to grow even further at the end of academic years 2008 and 2009. This year each student had at least 3 offers in hand comparatively last year as students had only 2 offers each. The best thing was that toppers had almost 8 offers from different companies to select from. On salary fronts, the highest salary offered this year was about 20 percent more than the last year’s highest offer of Rs. 3.5 lakh. Besides increase in the salary package, the companies recruited students in groups of 10s and above, an indication that business houses in the retail segments are increasing investment in human resources and enhancing scales to attract the best talent for competitiveness in the new economic regime.
Mr. A. K. G Nair, Group Director, Pearl Academy of Fashion, said, “Over the years, the Clothing and Textile Industry has increasingly looked at the institutes to provide a large pool of human resource talent and trained professionals. For last 4 years, retailers have been bullish in recruiting young graduates from PAF. The pay packets offered at the entry level are only stipends and after successful completion of the probation period, the candidates are taken in at a permanent employee’s pay scale, which could be as much as a 25 to 50 percent hike. We believe students are the future of our industry and therefore continuously strive to meet the expectations of current business by imparting value education of the highest standards.”
