To change something one needs to change himself first. And, to bring about this change one has to cross over the limitations, free himself, find a great objective, have magnanimous vision and back up the vision with action. This was the mantra given by noted management guru Padmashri Dr. Pritam Singh at a public lecture on Managing Change at Shobhit University, Meerut.
Addressing an elite audience including directors of various engineering and management colleges in and around Meerut at Shobhit University auditorium on Saturday the great management exponent said only those can bring about changes who are free from bondages. Citing examples from epic Mahabharat, Prof. Singh said all characters in the epic were bonded to their limits. Karna was biggest of those bonded to their limits. He had the might to overcome every limitation, yet he didn’t, as he had chained himself to certain values. Only lord Krishna was the master transcending all limits. It made him behave like a master, the possessor of all kinds of powers bringing about the change.
Explaining the intricacies of change process Dr. Pritam Singh said once the purpose has been found, magnanimous vision has to play its role in planning and foreseeing the events to come. Only this can channelise energies required for attainment of desired goals. Such vision has to be backed by action- the key ingredient for change. Citing a shloka from Shrimadbhagwadgita the management guru said an idea or vision sans action is of no use. It takes committed action to convert vision into tangible realities. Emphasising the importance of action by the visionary himself he gave examples from the life of Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya who once washed clean and wiped with his white Angwastram a floor in BHU to remove pan stains from the premises. He said, followers follow the action more than the words alone.
Prof. Singh also outlined the necessity for creative destruction. He said, anything that does not fit in the new creation has to be struck down. Saying there’s life after death, Dr. Singh said that death of wrong things, systems and processes should give way to new systems, processes and things. Sticking to such incompatible thing is bound to create limitations that shall hinder the process of change.
