Shobhit University, Meerut Vice Chancellor gets ISOI Award 2007
The Shobhit University Vice Chancellor and renowned Physicist Padmashri Prof. Rajpal S. Sirohi has been presented with ISOI Award 2007 by the Instrument Society of India.
Tweet-- The Shobhit University, Meerut Vice Chancellor and renowned Physicist Padmashri Prof. Rajpal S. Sirohi has been presented with ISOI Award 2007 by the Instrument Society of India. The honour was conferred upon Prof. Sirohi at 32nd National Symposium on Instrumentation held at KS Rangaswamy College of Technology, Tiruchengode, this week, for his outstanding contribution in the field of optical instrumentation.
Professor Sirohi is a highly distinguished Scientist well known for his contributions in Optical Metrology, Optical Instrumentation, Holography and speckle Phenomenon. The most significant contributions of Prof. Sirohi are in the development of digital holographic and speckle pattern interferometry. His research has translated these laboratory techniques into useful industrial measurement tools. In addition he has made seminal contributions in classical interferometry.
Prof. Sirohi has received many awards and honors which include the prestigious Humboldt Research Award of the Alexander von Homboldt Foundation, Germany, The Galileo Award of the International Commission of Optics, the Amita De Award of The Optical Society of India, the 13th Khawarizmi international Award from the President of Iran, the Albert Einstein Silver Medal of UNESCO, Dr. Y.T. Thathachari Award for Science, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Award in Engineering & Technology, the NRDC Technology Invention Award, Sir CV Raman Award for Physical Sciences, etc. The Govt. of India honored him with the national Civilian Award ‘Padmashri’. Professor Sirohi is a fellow/member of various academic bodies including the Indian National Academy of Engineering, Optical Society of America, etc. He also served as the President of the Optical Society of India and the Instrument Society of India.
He started his career at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras in the year 1971 as an Assistant Professor and rose to become a Professor in the year 1979. During his stay at IIT Madras, he established one of the best laboratories in the country in the area of Applied Optics. Professor Sirohi took over as the Director of Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in 2000, where he strived to create new infrastructure, academic centers, etc., till 2005. He served as the Vice Chancellor of Barkatullah University, Bhopal, till Sept. 2007 before joining Shobhit University, Meerut.
