Two-day Workshop was organized by School of Biomedical Engineering, Shobhit University, Meerut in association with DRDO, New Delhi and Deptt. of Electrical Engineering, Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi, to collect blood pooling data in the lower limbs of young adults under 1-G load. Dr. Ashok Salhan, Scientist ‘F’, DRDO, working on high altitude effect on physiology of the soldiers and Dr. Munna Khan, Professor, JMI, working in the area of Aerospace Engineering with NASA scientists, participated in the workshop and deliberated on the subject to the participants. Professor P.N. Goswami, Director, School of Biomedical Engineering, explained the significance of the Bioelectrical Impedance measurements as a non-invasive technique to determine Human Body Composition in terms of fat, fat-free-mass, intra-cellular and extra-cellular water besides other body parameters. He particularly emphasized on the electrical phase angle part of the body impedance measurements which is an overall health indicator of a person. He further added that with repeated measurements of phase angle over a significant interval of time, it can provide information about the residual life span of a person. The blood pooling research data collected in the workshop shall be useful in designing the new-age anti-gravity suits for the fighter jet pilots.

The workshop was initiated with lighting of the lamp by Professor R.P.Agarwal, Vice Chancellor of Shobhit University. Other prominent personalities present were Prof. D.P.S. Verma, Prof. S.C. Agarwal and Prof. S.K. Asthana, Dr. S.K. Gupta. The workshop concluded with the vote of thanks by Brigadier (Retd.) S.K.Sareen, Registrar of Shobhit University.
