“Innovation is the future of the nation” is what Dr. L. K. Maheshwari Vice Chancellor Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, said during his keynote address after distributing convocation degrees for Sixth batch of Marine Engineering Students of Tolani Maritime Institute, Pune. He was the guest of Honour for the convocation held at picturesque 100 acre campus of the Institute on 18th August, 2007. TMI in collaboration with BITS, Pilani is conducting four year degree course in Marine and Nautical Engineering since 1998. The sixth batch of 124 students comprising eight girl students created history of sort of 100% placement. The TMI continues to flourish by sticking to basic qualities; Attitude, Skill and Knowledge.

Principal B.K. Saxena welcomed the Guest and advised students to strive for excellence in seafaring, continual education and pride in the profession, which brings laurel to the Company, shipping community, TMI and Nation at large.

Dr. Natarajan, Dean DLPD, BITS Pilani congratulated students for their achievement and called seafarers as ambassadors of the nation and advised them to become cultural ambassadors of the nation.

Dr (Mrs) Sujata Naik TMI Vice Chairperson congratulated the graduating cadets and urged them to achieve excellence in their career to make proud their alma mater.

Captain Raj Razdan, Provost, TMI offered vote of thanks to all guests and appreciated the recruiting companies' presence at the occasion and remembered their support and their continued belief in recruiting TMI cadets. He also said the giving admission to eight girl cadets was a challenge well accepted and proved to be good work done by cadets themselves and recruiting companies. he further advised passing out students
