Entrepreneurship Week India inaugurated at BITS Pilani
BITS Pilani joins National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) and over 170 academic institutes across 25 cities in India in a nationwide effort to educate and support next generation entrepreneurs. Initiated by the NEN, EWeek India is a nation wide campaign launched to celebrate the opportunities that exist in India today and a call to action to improve the entrepreneurial ecosystem. EWeek is being held from February 24th to March 3rd, 2007.
Tweet-- As one of the Co-founding members of NEN, CEL plans to promote the spirit of Entrepreneurship by organizing a wide range of activities over the week. These activities will cater to students of varied interests to bring out their creativity and inculcate the entrepreneurial traits in them. Entrepreneurship Week India at BITS Pilani commenced on 24th Feb.with an Inauguration Ceremony presided by the Vice-Chancellor of BITS Pilani, Prof. L K Maheshwari. He in his inaugural address focused on innovations that can contribute to promote economic well being of masses. He released the issue of ‘Pulse’ a news letter brought out by CEL.
Dr B P Agarwal, internationally recognized for rapid commercialization of technologies and an invited speaker at United Nations Development Projects on management of innovations gave a talk on Management of Innovations and Entrepreneurship. He focused on the need for coming out with innovative solutions to critical problems and emphasized the need of inculcating entrepreneurial culture since childhood to strengthen the economic fabric of a nation.
“A CEL Story” - a talk about CEL and its success stories, to increase awareness among students about the opportunities at BITS Pilani to strengthen their spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation was presented. Details of projects at CEL, upcoming events of the center and the entrepreneurial culture within CEL were highlighted in the talk.
As part of its efforts to promote entrepreneurial thinking among the student community, the Center organizes an annual Business Plan Competition – ‘Conquest’. In its fourth edition this year, Conquest has grown into an International Business Challenge attracting entries from diverse fields. The finals of Conquest 2007 will be held on April 7-8, 2007 in the BITS Pilani campus. Some of the other activities that CEL intends to have in the coming week are: Intra-BITS Business Challenge ‘Epsilon’, on Feb 25th, the Crazy Business Idea Contest on 26th Feb, CEL’s BITS Big Bout edition on 27th Feb, the ‘Think-tank’ quiz and Stimulus on 28th Feb, Meet the Entrepreneur Session by an entrepreneur on 1st March.
Prof Arya Kumar Chief, Entrepreneurial Development and Intellectual Property Rights Unit, focused on the challenges faced by Indian economy and how entrepreneurship can respond to them to make India one of the leading economies in the world
