Progressive society is the ultimate benchmark of any organization which aims at national development. Besides imparting education in science and technology, Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, also endeavors to inculcate the interest in participatory development of society into its student community. My India is one such initiative.

Pilani, Rajasthan, February 7, 2007 /India PRwire/ -- My India is an organization that was started by a few students of BITS Pilani in February 2005 with an aim of starting a movement across the country that would mobilize the youth into doing their bit for the motherland. The 2005 tiny group has now chapters in three states, namely - Rajasthan (Raila, Dhadaar and Bhaas), Andhra Pradesh (Hyderabad, Vijayanagram, Kakinada, Warangal) and Karnataka (Bangalore). Currently the My India workforce stands at 400 across India.

Creating Knowledge awareness and generating employment opportunities are two major areas where the focus of My India lies. Knowledge projects like Gyan Bodh, Computer Learning Program are being run for underprivileged. The Rural Technology Club and the Self Help groups aim at providing sustainable employment prospects, particularly to women. Apart from that, efforts are being made to look for and provide suitable markets for rural products.

On February 4th 2007, the Village knowledge Center was inaugurated in Dhandaar village by Mr. Shravan Kumar, MLA from the area. Other dignitaries present were Prof. NVM Rao, Dean Student Welfare Division, Mr. Arjun Singh, Block Development Officer. The center has been stocked with books that deal with wide range of topics ranging from heath, general awareness, employment and technology.
