Dr. Abdul Waheed Khan to receive this year's Dayawati Modi Award for Art, Culture and Education
The Dayawati Modi Foundation announced Dr. Abdul Waheed Khan, the eminent educationist, as the recipient of the prestigious 'Dayawati Modi Award for Art, Culture and Education' for the year 2006.

Dr. Abdul Waheed Khan, 59 is currently working as Assistant Director- General for Communication and Information at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). He has worked for several international organizations such as UNFPA, UNDP, FAO, UNESCAP, Asian Development Bank and World Bank. Dr. Khan also served as Vice-Chancellor of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) from 1998 to 2000. He was the Chairman of the Distance Education Council, which is responsible for coordinating all open, and distance learning programmes in India.
Announcing the details for this year’s award, Mr. Satish Kumar Modi, President of Dayawati Modi Foundation said, “The Award highlights Dr. Khan’s outstanding contribution to education and development through innovative application of information and communication technologies.
Dr. Khan is the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions, including the Rajiv Gandhi National Integration Award, Super Brain of India Gold Award, Commonwealth of Learning’s Distinguished Service Award, Millennium Award for Education and World Peace and Honorary Doctorate from Jamia Hamdard University (India).
Dr. Khan joins the impressive list of previous awardees, which includes names like Amitabh Bachchan, Mother Teresa, Jagjit Singh, Pandit Jasraj, Asha Bhosle, Pandit Ravi Shankar and Tyeb Mehta
The award comprising a cash prize of Rs. 2.51 lakh, a silver shield and scroll of honour, will be presented to Dr. Khan in a ceremony in New Delhi on November 17, the birth anniversary of Late Smt. Dayawati Modi.

The award has been instituted by the Dayawati Modi Foundation for Art, Culture and Education of the Modi group in the memory of Late Smt. Dayawati Modi, wife of Late Rai Bahadur Gujar Mal Modi, founder of the Modi Group. Late Smt Dayawati Modi was a great philanthropist and an educationist. The Foundation has established schools and colleges, libraries and hostels for students.
