Dr.Kota Harinarayana will receive the G.M. Modi Award for Innovative Science & Technology on August9, 2006

G. M. MODI AWARD FOR INNOVATIVE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY'

The Gujar Mal Modi Science Foundation has announced Dr. Kota Harinarayana Raja Ramanna Fellow (DAE), National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore for his outstanding contribution to Indian aviation engineering & technology by conferring upon him the 'G.M.MODI' award for innovative science and technology, 2006. Dr. Kota Harinarayana's professional career of more than three decades has been dedicated to the advancement of science and technology capabilities of India, in the field of Aviation. The Award will be presented to him on August 9, 2006.

Dr. Kota Harinarayana joins the impressive list of previous awardees, which includes names like Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Dr. K Kasturirangan to name a few and the panel of judges is chaired by Prof. M.G.K. Menon.

After a short stint as Director, Aeronautical Development Establishment, Dr. Harinarayana took over as the Programme Director, Aeronautical Development Agency and was entrusted with the responsibility of Design and Development of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA). The LCA Project is the biggest R&D programme undertaken so far in the country.

Dr. Harinarayana dynamism, charisma and single-minded devotion to the success of the project, inspired and brought together a large section of the aeronautical community in the country and made this project notch up several important landmarks resulting in first flight of LCA in January 2001. Defence analysts are also of the view that the LCA-, which has been projected as the world's most compact and versatile fighter aircraft and the leading light of India's aerospace industry has to succeed. Not just for the sake of the IAF, but also to uphold the credibility of the Indian aeronautical industry

Announcing the details for this year's award, Mr. Satish Kumar Modi, President of Gujar Mal Modi Science Foundation said, "Dr. Kota Harinarayana has played an important role in the development of LCA. The Gujar Mal Modi Award is being awarded to him this year in recognition of his outstanding genius."

About the award:

Gujar Mal Modi Innovative Science and Technology Award is among the highest cash awards in the country in the field of Science and Technology. The award was instituted in 1988 in the memory of one of the great industrialists of India, late Rai Bahadur Gujar Mal Modi. It is given each year to a person who has demonstrated the qualities of excellence and innovation through outstanding research and providing leadership in the development and promotion of Science and Technology in India.
