Dabur Cracks Down On Spurious Dabur Honey Label Printer

Raid conducted in Amethi; Close to 1 lakh fake labels seized

Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, February 2, 2010 /India PRwire/ -- Stepping up Dabur India Ltd's efforts to curb the menace of spurious and counterfeit products, a raid has been conducted on a printing press in Amethi engaged in the printing of spurious labels of Dabur Honey. The raid, conducted by local authorities, has led to the seizure of spurious printed labels to Dabur Honey.

Accused Vipin Agarwal, proprietor of M/s Nitin Printers in Amethi, District Sultanpur (U.P.), has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Besides 97,700 fake labels of Dabur Honey 50 gm pack, the computers used in the exercise have also been seized.

"Counterfeit products are as much a danger to the national exchequer as it is to the health of the consumer. Since people engaged in the manufacturing of spurious products do not adhere to any quality checks and use spurious raw materials, these counterfeit products lead to serious damage to the consumer's health. These, in turn, lead to serious damage to the product's brand equity. Besides negatively affecting the lives of people who use them, counterfeit products are also causing an annual loss of several thousand crores to the national exchequer and to the industry. The raids, following action from Dabur, are an effort to tackle the problem of fake products entering the Indian market," said Dabur India Ltd Group Director Mr. P D Narang.

Dabur has been targeting counterfeit manufacturers across the country. Through its initiatives, raids have been conducted at various locations and goods worth over Rs 1.50 crore have been seized so far. "Dabur has mapped out locations where these activities take place and is going after the spurious products manufacturers. Leads have been obtained on packaging and label suppliers as well, and Dabur will spare no efforts to get them all behind bars," said Mr. Narang.

Counterfeit products result in an annual loss of approximately Rs 30,000 crore to the industry and Rs 15,000 crore to the Government exchequer. The FMCG industry alone has been facing losses of over Rs 2,600 crore per year, due to counterfeit products.
