Samsung to strengthen Digital Products Portfolio in year 2006
Samsung India today announced its plans to strengthen its digital products portfolio comprising of Digital Still Cameras, Digital Camcorders and MP3 Players in the Indian market.

Global technology leader, Samsung India today announced its plans to strengthen its digital products portfolio comprising of Digital Still Cameras, Digital Camcorders and MP3 Players in the Indian market. "Product innovation, technology leadership and design continue to be a thrust area for Samsung .The new range of digital products that we are launching today exemplify our commitment to introducing breakthrough technology products in the Indian market" states Mr. R. Zutshi, Dy. Managing Director, Samsung India.
Thus, while the YP-D1 being launched today is the World's first MP3 Player with Camera, the Pro815 Digital Still Camera is the World's longest built in 15X Zoom, 8 mega pixel high specification digital camera. The Company today also announced the launch of its first DVD Camcorder model, VP-DC 163i in the Indian market.
Samsung India which pioneered the introduction of SlimfitTM television in the Indian market in July last year, has commenced manufacturing 21" SlimfitTM televisions at its Noida CTV manufacturing facility last week. With the introduction of the 21Z30 SlimfitTM model, slated for launch in Bangalore later this week, the Samsung SlimfitTM television offering will comprise of 21", 29" and 32" screen models, priced in the range Rs.11,990/- to Rs.69,990/-. "We plan to strengthen our Flat television range this month by launching new sound oriented models in the 21" and the 29" screen size segments." states Mr. Pradeep Tognatta, Director-Sales, Samsung India. The new models will have sound output of 600W and 1200 W PMPO and have been designed and developed exclusively for the Indian market by the Samsung India R&D Centre located at Noida. The Company is aiming to sell 1.8 million CTVs in the Indian market across Flat/Slim Fit and Flat panel categories this year.
MP3 Players:
Samsung India today announced the launch of two new flash based digital audio players: the world's first MP3 Player with Digital Camera - YP-D1 which comes with a 2 Mega Pixel digital camera and YP-Z5, which stands out on account of its premium slim design and its Intuitive User Interface. The YP-D1, which comes with a 2 GB memory, is a complete multimedia wonder-Camera; MPEG-4 Playback/Photo viewer/Text Viewer; USB Host for connecting digital devices and a built in speaker functionality. Further, with a built in FM radio and 20 hours playback, the YP-D1 is an all-in-one entertainer. It is priced at Rs.21,500/-
The YP-Z5, available in 2GB and 4 GB versions, is a complete entertainment device. Slim yet stylish, with an outstanding 38-hour rechargeable battery, not to mention the enduring elegance of metal, the YP-Z5 offers digitally enhanced music output and clear photo viewing in a thin case. DNSe improved audio quality makes the Z5's music playback an almost -there experience as a vast collection of colours grace its high-resolution LCD for easy viewing of pictures, letting users zoom in for a closer look or watch a slideshow of their favorites. The Z5 is priced at Rs.11,990/- for the 2 GB versions and Rs.14,890/- for the 4 GB versions.
With the launch of these new models, Samsung has a lineup of 5 flash based MP3 players, priced in the range Rs.4390/-~Rs.21,500/-. Samsung, which launched its MP3 players in the Indian market in the second half of Y 2005, is targeting a 400% jump in its MP3 volumes in this year.
Digital Still Camera:
Samsung India is also seeking to fuel the growth of the Digital Still Camera business by introducing four new, advanced Digital Still Cameras with higher resolution and bigger LCD Screen. The Digimax S-500 with 5-mega pixels represents the entry-level camera in the new Digital Still Camera (DSC) introductions, with Digital Still Camera models, Pro815 and S-800, with 8-mega pixel resolutions representing the other end of the spectrum.
The flagship of the new DSC range from Samsung is the advanced 'all in one' Pro815 model. This model has several world leading features -the World's longest built in 15X Zoom, World's largest 3.5"TFT LCD used in digital camera; the World's largest lithium ion battery and the World's first top LCD for waist level shooting. Further, the high-speed mode provided by the Pro815 ensures steady shooting and minimizes camera shake even in tele-zoom.
With the introduction of the new range, Pro815 priced at Rs.54,990, Digimax S-800 priced at Rs.22,990, Digimax S-600 priced at Rs.14,990/- and Digimax S-500 priced at Rs.12,990/-, Samsung now has a range of 6 Digital Still Camera models, priced in the range between Rs.10,490/-~Rs.54,990/- in the Indian market. Digital Camcorder:
Samsung India today also announced its foray into the DVD Camcorder segment by launching its first DVD Camcorder model, VP-DC 163i in the Indian market. The Samsung DVD Camcorders, DC-163i and DC-565Wi (to be launched later this month) are designed to give the user an unprecedented flexibility of usage and quality. The 33x optical zoom, Digital 1200x Zoom lens of the DC-163i allow the user to effortlessly capture even the most distant subjects in perfect close up without sacrificing image quality.
Unique features like DVD-RW/-R/+RW/+R (Dual Layer) Capability, 4-in-1 multi memory card slot, and the 2.5" wide LCD of the DC-163i, make it a must have for every holiday. The DC-163i is priced at Rs.36,990/-. The Samsung MiniDV range has been boosted with the introduction of 3 new, advanced digital camcorders, including the 6-in-1 multifunctional camcorder, VP-MM10.
