Our conviction to build a school in a rural area forced us to deliberate as to how we could take it beyond and look at the benefit of the larger community. Thus evolved this revolutionary concept of an eco-friendly school, the underlying principles of which can be applied anywhere."

Prof. Pradeep Kumar Bhagat, Principal, Chandigarh College of Architecture said, "Open to all colleges of Architecture in the country, this design competition was a unique opportunity for students to create an energy efficient design using low cost sustainable material while giving due consideration to climate compatibility and environmental concerns. The ability of the students to showcase their creativity while factoring in sustainable design issues, at a time when the world is faced with pressing issues such as environmental degradation and global warming, has been the beauty of this competition."

About The Eurogroup Charity Fund:

The Eurogroup Charity Fund is the result of the combined philanthropic efforts of Eurogroup and its partners: Rewe, COOP, Rautakesko, and Baumax. Since its inception in 2008, the ECF has coordinated and sponsored various multi-year projects that focus on sustained development in impoverished areas of China and Southeast Asia. While Eurogroup initially concentrated its efforts in supporting several charity organizations and humanitarian causes such as the Salvation Army, the Children Education Fund, and Medecines Sans Frontieres, Eurogroup also looked for even closer ways to benefit the countries it operates in. One such way was to provide a new library to Lin Tong Bin Primary School in Shaoguan, China.Seeing how well the children of the rural village responded to the library's resources encouraged the expansion of the ECF. 2007 marked another milestone as the ECF upgraded another school's facilities to improve its learning environment. 2009 and 2010 highlight the fruition of numerous multi-year commitments that the ECF has launched and nurtured. These include adding a canteen and a dormitory to a secondary school in Guangdong, supporting an education centre aiding refugee children in Thailand, and founding a primary school in Bangladesh. There are many orphans and impoverished children worldwide, and education is a key priority in preventing the deterioration of local communities. Adding classrooms and other school facilities will ensure sustained improvement in the education and development of children. The combined generosity of Rewe, COOP, Rautakesko, and Baumax enable several schools to enhance their curriculum and empower thousands of students to realize new opportunities. Thanks to the Eurogroup Charity Fund, Eurogroup and its partners can strategically pursue its core belief in social responsibility and sustained growth. Contributions made through the Eurogroup Charity Fund support the education and sustainable development of local communities throughout Asia. Providing underprivileged children with education and training is critical in securing their future. All of the projects launched in China, Thailand, and Bangladesh are multi-year commitments. Projects focused on improving educational resources and sustainable developments are currently under development in India and Vietnam, and plan to launch in 2011.
