Quality control norms a must for all diagnostic laboratories in India

Bio-Rad Laboratories and Quality Council of India organize Quality Awareness seminars National level seminar series to be held across major Indian cities

New Delhi, Delhi, September 13, 2007 /India PRwire/ -- Bio-Rad Laboratories in association with Quality Council of India (QCI), Government of India, today organized a seminar on quality control (QC) in diagnostic laboratories. The seminar focussed on the need for upgrading and enforcing QC practices in laboratories all over the country.

Accredited and recognized laboratories following quality control practices are favoured by both patients and medical practitioners alike. It is important that diagnosis be taken seriously since individual healthcare plans and medication is completely dependent on test results.

Speaking at the seminar, Dr T. Venkatesh, Advisor, Quality Council of India said, “Only 1 in 1000 labs are accredited, and this situation poses a risk to the public at large.. “Diagnosis is a crucial step in determining healthcare planning including medication prescription is imperative that we give it the attention it deserves.”

The Quality Council of India is an autonomous body under the Government of India which has established and operates National Accreditation Structure for assessment bodies. In association with Bio-Rad Laboratories, the QCI has been actively involved in spreading awareness in the area of QC in diagnostic labs.

“The objective for seminars like these is to generate awareness about QC in diagnostic labs in India. Over the past few years, Bio-Rad Laboratories has worked with various regulator agencies, and like-minded associations to raise awareness on the issue,” said Mr Dhiren Wagle, Country Manager of Bio-Rad Laboratories. Bio-Rad Laboratories is the world’s leading manufacturer of diagnostic equipments and test kits.

The seminar saw some insightful presentations by panel of experts. Among the many topics discussed, international speakers spoke of global standards and best practices that need to be implemented in India.
