-- The legendary Odissi Guru Mayadhar Raut (Padmashri awardee), who turned 80 this month performs the ashtapadi - 'Nindati Chandan' from Jayadeva's Geet govind on the 23rd of July at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The performance will take place after his biography is released by Mrs. Gursharan Kaur on the same day. This rare performance is a part of the Yaatra festival.
Guru Mayadhar raut was the first Odissi guru to introduce geet govind ashtapadis to the modern Odissi repertoire in the 1960s. His style of Odissi is known for intense abhinaya and extensive use of hand gestures.
