Tweet-- The foundation for Universal Responsibility of His Holiness the Dalai Lama & Ashoka Hotel present Dharma Series, An Exhibition of Photo Art by Naina Kapur, from 9 :00 AM to 9:00 PM , March 19th to 21st 2010 at the Friendship Lounge, Ashoka Hotel, 50 B, Chanakya Puri, Delhi
The exhibition will be held on the occasion of the Teachings of His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama.
The present collection has emerged from the artist's impressions and experiences of the Tibetan community and His Holiness, the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala. Craftspeople absorbed in the precision of detail, nuns in confident debate, the elderly at prayer, the inclusive ritual of tea are just a small spectrum of a vast community in exile. A community remarkably touched by the persevering guidance and gentle grace of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama.
About The Artist
Naina Kapur is one of the newer artists to enrich the repertoire of what Indian women artists have to offer the world today. Drawn to mixing and experimenting with a range of mediums she has created canvases in acrylic, oils, gouache and charcoal. Her newest and most passionate creations are her fusion work. An adept photographer, she creates a potent mix by digitalizing her work to give it intense and vibrant dimensions. As a photo based artist, her work has been exhibited at National and International events amidst much praise.
Background
Born in Uganda, brought up in Edinburgh and then Canada, Naina Kapur qualified as a lawyer from England. At the age of 25, life choices led her to settle and work in India. Her journey as a social activist, Supreme Court litigator and Ngo leader has engaged Naina in women's equality rights for most of her professional life. Even in those places, her creative vision has led to innovative change.
Having moved from the hustle and ideology of that time, Naina found herself increasingly inclined to channel her creative energy towards a more expansive movement in her life. In 2005 she began to explore her creative frontiers through painting. En route, Photo Art found its way into her imagination and has grown into a primary creative force.
PREVIOUS WORKS
Naina constantly explores the depth of who we become within a given reality, be it the feminine form (Buddhist Nun Series, India), face to face encounters (Rubaru Series, India), or the liberating forms of freedom (Freedom series, India & Singapore). The combination of art, photography, digital processing and the rich experience of life has equipped Naina with a unique palette through which to blend the elements of how she absorbs life within and around her.

About The Series
"Dharma Series" is about perception. It is about seeing beyond a first impression, and then presenting it from a gentle, inclusive place. That is what makes it more than art, makes it a living process - a discovery of who one is and how we see in any place, any context, at any time, and with anyone. That is what makes this series, in life and in art, an ongoing work in the practice of Dharma.
