Udit Kulshrestha, an art and Advertising photographer associates with Art for Prabhat for an Fund Raiser toward the cause of Rehabilitation and Self sustenance of the Mentally Challenged Children, as part of Art of Prabhat's exhibition titled "Spaces" at Palm Court Gallery, India Habitat Cente, New Delhi. This exhibit is from 4-7th Oct, 2008.

He is showcasing part of his collection from “Forgotten TimeSpaces”, where he documents spaces which when he came across during his travels, made him realize their immortality. Invisble to a passeryby’s vision, these spaces, spoke to him of a time that would soon be forgotten. Still spaces, which left him wondering on the life engraved and entwined with those spaces. The work on display is his tribute to the colour space in photography.

Udit Kulshrestha, made his debut showcase with "Darwaaze':: A Tale in the still life of Doors", at Market Cafe, Khan Market, New Delhi (July 08). Part of the new brigade of art photographers, born in Rajkot in 1977, Udit Kulshrestha spent his childhood travelling the length and breadth of the country, as an Army officer’s son. Thus began the yearning to perceive objects, both animate and inanimate, from dissimilar points of view; a trait that came in handy during his 7 years in marketing in the domains of Internet, Media, Paints & Durables. With his parental lineage in performing and visual arts, (his grandfather having taught the Great Ghazal Maestro Jagjit Singh) he succumbed to his genetic calling as a visual artist, choosing photography as the medium of expression.

Encouragement came to him in his initial learning period during projects for UNESADE, Spain, on issues of Education, Poverty, Sustainability, Street Children and other ‘Blind Spots’ of the society, surreal to the indifferent many, being miles away from the elitist voyeurism that crowds our senses. Having published some of his editorial works across the US (Smithsonian - 2008), RCE Barcelona E&S, Spain (2007 & 2008), and Times of India & Traffic Life Magazine, India (2007 & 2008), his profession keeps him busy creating visual delights for the Advertising, editorial and corporate clientele in the domains of people, lifestyle, still life and sports.

While his professional life as a marketer gave him enviable insights into the ever-changing society that we are in, the particular segments that he has worked with, have given him incidental but truly invaluable lessons For e.g., his stint with ICI Dulux gave him new understandings of the varying hues of colours, their innate harmonies, inherent contrasts and the play of light on colour temperature. His recent showcase on the Life & Tales of Doors, aptly entitled Darwaaze’, held at Market Café, Khan Market, New Delhi during July-Aug 2008 is an illustration of the same. Some of his personal works adorn walls not only domestically but internationally as well in private collections and he is represented by galleries in Middle East, Ahmedabad, New Delhi & Gurgaon.

A self taught inquisitive photographer and a traveler – more a voyager of the visual senses – he explores the mediums of motion imagery, literature & creative writing, philosophy, design and music to hone his pictorial perspectives. He is currently exploring the vistas of People, Street & Life, Abstracts and Still Life. He is also working on a coffee table book on a small but diverse and economically self sustaining community based on faith, slated for release in 2010.

Udit hails from the Land of the Taj Mahal, Agra and is based out of Gurgaon, a suburb of Delhi.

ART for PRABHAT

"A thing of beauty is a joy forever" And this is truer when the journey that led to the creation is explored."Art for Prabhat" is one such journey for which the Art for Prabhat Shows are landmarks. The sparks of a dynamic synergy between the retarded and the genius unfold as our youngsters (shunned, ridiculed, and isolated by society on account of their intellectual disability) have at times not only created a canvas for the artist (creative, imaginative, loved and revered) to further develop into a thing of beauty but also worked with photographers and artists from time to time.
"Art for Prabhat" is an ongoing attempt to provide opportunities for society to join hands with people with intellectual challenges. We conduct 3-4 group shows each year.Eminent artists like Jogen Chowdhury, Anjolie Ela Menon, Yusuf Arakkal, Arpana Caur, Neeraj Goswami, GR Iranna and many others have endorsed our 'Art for Prabhat' handmade paper and helped make this attempt to mainstream the work of these youngsters possible.

ABOUT SOCIETY FOR CHILD DEVELOPMENT Driven by the conviction that there is a way to create a world of equal opportunities for people with disabilities, the Society for Child Development (SFCD) was founded as a non-profit organization in 1992 to establish programs and initiatives for its actualization. In the beginning – Prabhat – a school for children with learning difficulties was launched in Shakti Nagar.Prabhat aims to provide students with an educational and training facility that will assist them in acquiring basic living and academic skills. At the age of 18, students transfer to the Vocational Training Center to learn market-driven skills and crafts. Regularity, precision, innovation and creativity are the keywords at the center.
