Food-a-Thon brings corporates and individuals together to fight hunger

Delhi NCR FoodBank in partnership with its Founding Members Cargill India and DLF Foundation along with 50 corporations collected over 29000 kilograms of non-perishable food in 60 days - Initiative will support 10,000 nutritious meals daily - Recognizes support from corporate and individual contributors

New Delhi, Delhi, November 19, 2014 /India PRwire/ -- Continuing in its efforts to fight hunger and malnutrition, Delhi NCR FoodBank, member of India FoodBanking Network, today announced key corporate and individual contributors in the 60 day long Food-a-thon campaign. The annual Food-a-thon is organised to mark World Food Day to inspire corporations and individuals to work together to collect food for feeding the vulnerable population.

Siraj Hussain, Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries graced the event as the Chief Guest and felicitated the key contributors. Talking about the efforts and the initiative, he said, "It gives me immense pleasure to see different stakeholders coming together and collaborating to support eradication of hunger and malnutrition. A FoodBank in each district supported by the community will go a long way to address the hunger and nourishment issue in our country. I congratulate Cargill India, MTS, IFBN, Delhi NCR FoodBank and all those involved for participating in this food drive for supplementing the efforts of Government of India in addressing this enormous challenge of hunger and malnutrition faced by the country. I hope this effort will also create awareness about the need of reducing food losses at consumer end".

The awards were distributed to corporates in recognition of the valuable support that will support over 10,000 nutritious meals daily. Employees at Cargill India gathered the maximum amount of food and recipient of the Maximum Impact award and MTS India was recognized for the best communication model to drive call for action, and received the Best Communication Outreach award.

Lt. Gen. Rajender Singh (Retd.), CEO of DLF Foundation while delivering the inaugural address said "DLF Foundation is a founding member of the Food Bank Initiative. It has created the infrastructure for the Food Bank located at a prime location of Gurgaon. It is a part of a larger goal to positively impact the health situation which can't be achieved without addressing hunger and malnutrition. As individuals and corporates, we must contribute to this basic need which is related to the very existence of human beings. We must collectively pledge that the country will not let anyone die due to hunger and malnutrition. The Food-a-thon is a great step towards this direction".

Our involvement in the initiative is part of our overall effort to make a difference, beyond business to the local communities. This year, through active employee mobilization, MTS India has contributed over 5 & half tonnes of non-perishable food for Food-a-thon 2014. I am confident that in 2015, working with Responsenet Development Services, we will be able to better this milestone."

Delhi NCR FoodBank in partnership with its Founding Members Cargill India and DLF Foundation encouraged over 50 corporations, institutions & RWAs and thousands of individuals to give back to the society by collecting over 29000 kilograms of non-perishable food in 60 days campaign. The food collected will be provided by the Delhi NCR FoodBank to its 18 institutional feeding partners across 32 locations for sustained feeding of 10,000 beneficiaries.

Other award recipients were Arshi Kirti, student of DPS Sushant Lok for the Individual Award - Volunteer of the Year 2014, Mr. Dev Khosla of The Weight Monitor for the Most Innovative Initiative, Fenesta Windows for the Best Employee Engagement of the year, Special Award for Sustained Partnership - DLF Foundation and Kulachi Hansraj Model School for the School Award: Maximum Impact through Food Donation.

Trans Innovations has partnered with Delhi NCR FoodBank and is helping strengthen the systems and technologies to help the food bank reach more individuals by creating more tools for the various stages of the humanitarian supply chain.
