Sailesh C Mehta, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Deepak Fertilizers and Petrochemicals Corporation, Pune was unanimously re-elected as the Chairman of The Fertilizers Association of India (FAI)-Western Region for the year 2010 -2011 for the 6th consecutive year, in the 50th Annual Meeting of the Association held on 10th May 2010 at Ishanya Mall, Pune

Pune, Maharashtra, May 11, 2010 /India PRwire/ -- FAI-WR announces winners of awards for Crop Productivity Improvement and Fertilisers Extension Services.

Sailesh C Mehta, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Deepak Fertilizers and Petrochemicals Corporation, Pune was unanimously re-elected as the Chairman of The Fertilizers Association of India (FAI)-Western Region for the year 2010 -2011 for the 6th consecutive year, in the 50th Annual Meeting of the Association held on 10th May 2010 at Ishanya Mall, Pune.

The Western Region of the Association consists - Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhasttisgarh and Goa State. The region contributes about 40% of the total fertiliser production capacity of the country.

While addressing the members, Mr Mehta assured that the problems of the industry would be taken up at the appropriate level. He also stressed on the need to focus on the farmer and ensure higher productivity through judicious use of fertilisers. He exhorted the members to address the needs of the soil and farmers in more scientific way to ensure upliftment of farming community through better productivity.

The FAI-WR also announced the winners of Mahadhan awards for Crop Productivity Improvement and Fertiliser Extension Services that had been announced in the year 2009-10. M/s. Deepak Fertilisers & Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd (DFPCL) and M/s Krishak Bharati Cooperative Ltd (KRIBHCO) were awarded the prize for Excellence in Crop Productivity Improvement while M/s. Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO) and M/s. Zuari Industries Ltd (ZIL) were announced as winners for the Excellence in Fertiliser Extension Services. The participating farmers as well as companies were felicitated.

To have unbiased and scientific working of the project, an award committee was set up under the Chairmanship of Dr. S S Magar, Ex. Vice Chancellor, Dr. Babasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli and Ex. President of Indian Agricultural Universities Association, New Delhi along with Dr. R D Mulay, Ex. Director of Agriculture, Maharashtra and D.D Khose, Regional Executive, FAI-WR.

The awards had been set up to create awareness on "Integrated Nutrient Management" among the farming community in the States of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chattisgarh, by the Fertiliser Association of India, Western Region in collaboration with fertiliser manufacturing / marketing companies who undertook crop productivity enhancement project during the year 2009-10. The awards carry a cash prize of Rs. 51000/- each and are being given to the companies doing outstanding work in the respective fields.

Later The annual meeting of The Fertiliser Association of India (Western Region) was held under the chairmanship of S. C. Mehta. U. S. Jha (CMD, RCF), K. V. Nayak, Sr. Vice President, Deepak Fertilisers & D. D. Khose, Regional Executive, FAI WR were also present and addressed the gathering.

The members representing several giant fertiliser companies from private, public, joint and cooperative sectors discussed various issues pertaining to production, consumption, imports and post Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) impact on the industry & agriculture during the year 2009-10 and outlook for 2010-11.

The participating farmers in the Crop Productivity Enhancement Programme Shri. Rajkumar Kanse, Shri Vinayak Bandal (Dist : Kolhapur) and Shri. Uday Nanajkar (Dist : Solapur) were felicitated by Chairman ,FAI-WR.
