As part of commemoration of India’s First War of Independence of 1857, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and the Ministry of Defense has organised a program “Vismay Swaraj Yatra” from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

The yatra was inaugurated in Srinagar on 2nd of October 2007 by Shri Gulam Nabi Azad, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. During the Yatra, the world famous Magician Sh Gopinath Muthukad and his troupe is slated to perform 100 magic shows in 22 states, that depicts the glorious history of our nation, starting from 1857 to the time we attained freedom in 1947.

The special magic show tells us about the struggles of freedom fighters against colonial oppression. It also portrays the plight of contemporary India where the vested interests try to destabilize the peaceful coexistence of the nation. It has a rousing conclusion, and sends the message of gathering strength through people’s unity, to eradicate the evil forces in the country.

Recently the Yatra reached national capital Delhi, where Gopinath and his troupe performed 'The Patriotic Magic Show' at a specially arranged place in front of India Gate. On this occasion Oscar Fernandes (Union Minister of State for Labour (independent charge), actress and socialite Nafisa Ali and Dr. Shakeel Ahmed (Director General of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan) were also present there.

Nafisa Ali was all praised for Gopinath and his troupe for performing such a show portraying the struggles of freedom fighters to get freedom that also send a strong message amongst the peoples. She also appealed to organise such a thematic show on regular basis.

On this occasion Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Khan said, our aim is to create awareness & relive the first war of independence and the struggle by freedom fighters. He said during that time British power tried to rule on our country but it was the efforts of those fighters we are living in a independent country. Today various terrorist activities wants to make their presence felt and if the youths won't wake-up it would be difficult to fight against the terror, that's why we are trying to relive the magical moment again and again amongst them and Vismay Swaraj Yatra is another effort in this chain.
