Company Profile
Established in 1989, the Institute for Financial Markets is a Section 501(c)(3) educational foundation located in Washington, District of Columbia. The Institute's mission focuses on three primary areas — education, ethics and data. The IFM strives to promote professional knowledge, judgment and integrity by providing research, educational resources and training to financial services industry participants and to interested constituencies including journalists, academicians and public-policy makers.
The Institute operates as an independent nonprofit foundation, however, it is affiliated with the Futures Industry Association, a trade association. The FIA membership includes more than 40 of the largest futures commission merchants responsible for more than 80% of all public customer business executed on U.S. contract markets. Although a sister organization of the FIA, the Institute for Financial Markets operates autonomously, and is governed by Board of Trustees separate and apart from the Futures Industry Association’s Board of Directors.
The Institute has no members and does not engage in any lobbying activities. It funds its activities and the development of new programs from two sources: the sale of its products and services and the generous support of a broad range of financial institutions, exchanges, brokerage firms and participants from a variety of market sectors.
