West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata began crucial talks here Friday to decide on the future of the global auto major's stalled Nano small car project at Singur in the state.
The meeting between the two sides began at the state secretariat Writer's Building here at 3.55 p.m.
Ratan Tata is accompanied at the talks by Tata Motors' managing director Ravi Kant.
Work at the Singur project to roll out the world's cheapest car has been stalled since Sep 2 following an agitation by a section of the farmers over land acquired for the plant. Tata Motors has kept work at the site suspended since then and reports are that the auto major is scouting for possible sites in other states to set up the plant.
