Tata Motors chairman Ratan Tata is worried about his company's small car project in Singur, West Bengal Industries Minister Nirupam Sen said here Thursday night.
Sen, after coming out of a more than hour-long meeting with Ratan Tata at the hotel where he is staying, said: 'He (Ratan Tata) is quite worried regarding the Singur project. He didn't anticipate that these kinds of agitations would happen in Singur. He expressed his anxiety and apprehensiveness.'
'I have tried to assure him that Trinamool Congress have assured us that there will be no lawlessness during the Aug 24 demonstration at the Tata Motors factory site in Singur,' he added.
Trinamool Congress-led Krishijami Jiban Jibika Raksha Committee (KJJRC - Save farmland committee) would launch an indefinite agitation from Aug 24 around the Tata Motors site till 400 acre of farmland taken for ancillary industries adjacent to the project is returned to the farmers. A total 997.11 acres was taken for the ancillary industries.
Tata Motors took up the project of building its small car, Nano, at Singur, 40 km from Kolkata, a couple of years ago.
'I hope all the parties even those in the opposition should think before taking any action, so that these kinds of projects in West Bengal can go through peacefully,' Sen said.
Asked whether Tata Motors was thinking of pulling out of the state after facing so much of agitation, Sen said: 'They have invested for this project. They don't want to pull out until and unless they are forced to do so.'
