West Bengal's industrialisation depends on the successful rolling out of Tata Motors' Nano cars from the Singur factory, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) politburo member Sitaram Yechury said here Thursday.

'Shutdowns are not obstacles to industrialisation in West Bengal, but the uncertainty about the Tata Nano factory at Singur is. This project is the corner stone for industrialisation in the state,' Yechury said at an interactive session with members of the Indian Chamber of Commerce here.

'The issue on Singur can only be sorted out through mutual discussions. I hope the discussions between the state government and the principal opposition Trinamool Congress Wednesday (over farmland acquisition for the project) would lead to a constructive conclusion soon,' he said.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Monday sent a letter to Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, inviting her for talks on the Singur land row.

Leader of the Opposition in state assembly Partha Chattopadhyay met Bhattacharjee Wednesday and reiterated that the land acquired in Singur for the Tata Motors small car project be returned to the original farmer owners, and that the agreement with the industrial giant be made public.

The state government had acquired 997.11 acres for the Tata Motors' project, triggering violent protests since June 2006.
