Buoyed by the success of hydro power projects, the Himachal Pradesh government is now planning to tap wind power potential in a big way.
Addressing delegates from the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Barog, 40 km from here, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal Monday urged the industrialists to enter the renewable energy sector by investing in wind power generation.
'The state government would clear the wind power projects on priority,' he said.
Dhumal said the government had also decided to allot mini-hydel projects that would produce up to 2 MW power exclusively to Himachali entrepreneurs, while local entrepreneurs were being given preference in the allotment of projects with 5 MW capacity.
He added that the government would consider bringing hydel projects up to 25 MW capacity under the small hydro electric project category.
