Godrej Appliances Ltd (GAL), the consumer durable division of the multi-products firm Godrej and Boyce Manufacturing Co, will shortly enter the highly competitive television market, said a top company official.
'On a pilot basis, we will market flat-screen and liquid crystal display (LCD) big screen televisions in Andhra Pradesh sometime in August this year,' GAL vice president for sales and amp; marketing Kamal Nandi told reporters here Thursday.
Based on the market responses, GAL will introduce the products at the national level.
According to Nandi, the televisions will be in the price range of Rs.8,000-Rs.70,000.
The entry in the television segment is a logical move for the division that launched DVDs a couple of years ago, importing from China.
'Last year we sold 200,000 units logging 70 percent growth. We are the first one to launch a wall mounted home theatre,' he said.
Along with the televisions, Godrej is expected to launch seven new DVD and 13 microwave oven models this festival season.
The company will also launch eight models of top loading washing machines. 'Last year we sold 175,000 units of washing machines, logging 56 percent growth,' he said.
