Leading mobile phone service provider Idea Cellular Ltd Wednesday slashed its long-distance call rates and roaming charges.
As per the new tariffs, subscriber trunk dialling (STD) call charges have been reduced to Rs.1.30 per minute effective from Friday.
National roaming rates have also been cut and subscribers will now be charged Re.1 per minute for local incoming and outgoing calls and Rs.1.50 per minute for all STD calls.
'The national roaming tariffs would be effective next Monday (March 12) onwards,' said Pradeep Shrivastava, Idea Cellular's chief marketing officer.
Idea Cellular currently serves over 25 million subscribers in 11 states, including Maharashtra, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
The company is owned by the $24-billion Aditya Birla Group. Idea's new rates come soon after after cellular service operators Airtel and Vodafone announced similar rate cuts in the past couple of days.
