ESPN Tuesday marked its entry into the mobile value-added service domain with the announcement of its specialised 'Mobile ESPN'.

The service will give the latest updates on cricket and football and also provide exclusive interviews, its news programme Sports Centre, the popular Super Selector programme and schedule of all sports events.

Mobile ESPN will be available in all formats -- voice, video and text -- and would be transmitted in multiple languages across the country on major telecom networks from Nov 15.

'Globally, Mobile ESPN has defined a new wireless category. With this service, sports enthusiasts in India will now have ESPN on their fingertips,' said R.C. Venkateish, managing director of ESPN Software (India) Pvt Ltd., at a press conference.

The service can be availed by dialling 505-ESPN (3776) on the phone or by sending an SMS to (ESPN) 3776, the ESPN code nationally. On entering the voice portal, consumers can select from a module comprising different sections.

The service will be launched in a variety of consumer-friendly packages whereby they can choose to access at their convenience or set alerts in voice, text or streaming modes.

Users will be required to pay from between Rs.50-100 as a monthly fee for accessing one of the services. They can also avail services on pay-per-use basis on a regular telecom tariff.

'The unique feature about Mobile ESPN is the fact that you access information about any match irrespective of the channel it will be broadcast on,' said Sricharan Iyengar, head of New Media Business, which is part of ESPN.
